COURSE DESCRIPTION
The short course in Research Methodology offered by the Research Division of GMU is designed to meet the basic research needs of professionals in health and non-health care fields. Phase I covers research methodology and biostatistics that is a pre-requisite to clinical research.
COURSE OUTCOMES
At the end of this course the students enrolling in the program will be able to:
- Perform appropriate descriptive statistics in a given situation
- Identify suitable statistical test procedures for a given data set
- Perform literature searches and systematic reviews
- Develop a research protocol
- Differentiate between quantitative and qualitative research methods
- Apply appropriate research methods to answer research questions
- Identify the elements required to be included in an Informed Consent Form (ICF) and describe the informed consent process
- Describe the role of the research committee in research
- Describe research misconduct and explain the importance of honesty in research
- Perform statistical procedures using statistical software for a given data set

COURSE CONTENT
This course is of three months duration consisting of the following units:
Basic Biostatistics
Research Designs and Protocol Development
Ethics in Biomedical Research
Data Management.
