COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is an excellent opportunity for the participants to get hands-on experience of basic surgical skills complimented by theoretical sessions; thereby reinforcing their previously acquired skills in a safe surgical skills lab set-up. The course has been designed as per the recent trends and guidelines for surgical skills.
The core objective is to train the participants in generic basic techniques applicable to all types of surgery using the most advanced surgical simulators and models.
COURSE OUTCOMES: At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
- Use the correct methodology and techniques for observing universal precautions for safe theatre practice including hand washing, scrubbing, gloving and gowning.
- Use the correct methodology and techniques for observing sterile techniques like surgical hand scrub, preparation and draping of sterile field.
- Identify and explain the various types of suturing materials, their uses, advantages and disadvantages.
- Identify and explain the use of various surgical instruments and their handling and positioning.
- Apply basic generic skills involved in tissue handling like skin and tendon.
- Apply basic generic skills involved in wound care, closure and dressing including suturing and knotting techniques.
- Understand the principles of management of various types of fractures
- Use techniques like Immobilization, traction, splinting and POP for management of fractures.
The course is aimed at doctors, interns and residents, general practitioners, family physicians, Â medical students and nurses.
