COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Pharmaceutical Sales and Marketing course offers a special educational opportunity that prepares candidates, with a medical background, for a career in the field of pharmaceutical sales and marketing.

It lays down a foundation of all relevant knowledge in the fields of pharmacy, pharmacology, medical terminology, pharmacy laws and ethics along with an emphasis on sales and marketing fundamentals. The course serves to blend the theoretical principles of sales and marketing with a real life experience of sales calls in hospital settings.

COURSE OUTCOMES
Upon successful completion of this course, the applicant will be able to:

  1. Define all the pharmaceutical and medical terms, and abbreviations needed for effective practice in the profession of sales and marketing of pharmaceuticals.
  2. Promote pharmaceutical products on the basis of the general principles of pharmacology and drugs acting on different body systems.
  3. Classify the drugs according to their therapeutic actions on body systems and current clinical use.
  4. Apply the current global and regional needs of pharmaceutical industry to enhance pharmaceutical sales.
  5. Apply various concepts of sales and marketing regarding territory planning, information gathering, call scheduling and record keeping after closing sales.
  6. Use evidence from comparative clinical studies and trials on new and established products effectively in selecting strategies of marketing.
  7. Address special ethical problems and dilemmas facing professional practice on the basis of laws and rules that regulate the pharmacy profession as well as the appropriate procedures.
  8. Apply basic theories and use skills that are essential for effective communication and public speaking.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND THE COURSE
The course is primarily aimed at individuals with a medical background (Pharmacists, Physicians, Veterinarian, Dentists and other professionals working in Pharmaceutical Sales and Marketing) who wish to enter careers in marketing/sales departments of pharmaceutical companies. It also suits individuals who require additional training in pharmaceutical sales and marketing to sustain their existing position and secure promotion opportunities.

Continuing Education Units
The course has been accredited for eighteen continuing education (CE) units awarded by the University. Although these CE units cannot be transferred to satisfy credit requirements in any diploma or degree level courses in which the candidates may enroll at a future date, they could be counted in advancement of career by the relevant institutions.
