This year GMU is adding new facilities to its existing infrastructure to increase opportunities for clinical research and clinical training in the safe environment of the skills and simulation laboratories.
GMU Center for Advanced Simulations in Healthcare (CASH):
The GMU Center for Advanced Simulations in Healthcare is a large facility with an Inpatient setup that includes a bedside setting, an OBG delivery suite, with a neonatal intensive care unit [NICU]; a model operation room that may be used as a wet lab for performing endoscopic procedures like laparoscopy, arthroscopy, and bronchoscopy placed next to a model ICU. The diagnostic and therapeutic areas are represented by a set up that includes a model hospital laboratory, a model pharmacy and radiology and imaging suite equipped with simulators for taking virtual images for teaching and training.
The Outpatient settings are represented by model clinics for examining Medicine, Surgery, OBG and Pediatric “patients” in the safe environment of the Skills Lab, which is further supported by the use of models for practicing procedural skills in medicine, surgery, pediatrics and nursing. A 12-station OSCE room with moveable partitions has been designed for testing and evaluating the performance of students/trainees.
The life support training room will provide courses on Advanced and Basic Life Support for all health professionals and students. The control room equipped with facilities for recording and the debriefing room for showing the videos as part of self-assessment make this facility complete for a future clinical skills proficiency testing center.
New Medical & Dental Centers:
A new 25-bedded hospital in Sharjah and a 100-bedded hospital in Dubai are currently under construction and will serve as additional clinical training sites for GMU students in the future.
The sports facilities at GMU have been expanded and continue to provide high end amenities. It now includes outdoor tennis and basketball courts and indoor badminton and squash courts, junior Olympic-size swimming pool, a cricket pitch and a football ground. This complex also includes the Blends & Brews Coffee Shoppe that offers an express service for all in the main foyer of the building for the convenience of the students and staff. The Terrace Restaurant and Body and Soul Health Club & Spa offers many sports, recreation, fitness, health, social and youth programs and summer training camp for children. The infrastructure is also being used to conduct courses on health and fitness and other athletic events as part of student activities.
