GMU Alumni Society

Alumni and friends of the Gulf Medical University are more important than ever. With the help of the GMU Alumni Association Gulf Medical University wants to expand its online communications and its strong volunteer network to meet the needs of GMU.

Alumni Council’s Objectives

GMU realizes the importance of involving Alumni in its planning for all programs and activities which are targeted at GMU alumni. In view of this fact, an alumni council was formed during this academic year and the goals of this council are the following:
  • To maintain active and interested health professional alumni, promoting fellowship and professional relationships among members of the Society.
  • To act as advocates for medical, dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy and other allied health profession students.
  • To act as advocates for physicians, dentists, pharmacists, physical therapists and other allied health professionals in post doctoral medical and allied health education programs.
  • To assist in recruiting qualified applicants to GMC, GDC, GPHC and GCAHS.
  • To assist in development activities for GMC, GDC, GPHC and GCAHS.
  • To promote and facilitate research in the clinical department of GMC, GDC, GPHC and GCAHS.
  • To provide counsel as requested by the leaders of GMC, GDC, GPHC and GCAHS on matters related to the College's advancement

Career Counseling Department

Career Counseling Department advancing its role to provide academic, career, and personal counseling to students and assist with other student affairs administrative duties.

Mission

The mission of the Counseling Department is to support the educational objectives of the University through counseling, education, programming, consultation, collaboration, and crisis intervention designed to enhance each student's academic, career, and personal growth.

Objectives

  • Provide personal counseling to enhance students' self-esteem and problem solving skills.
  • Consult with faculty and staff about students' learning, behavioral, and emotional needs.
  • Provide experiences and activities that support student development and success.
  • Provide workshops and seminars in the areas of career decision making, for future planes available options for residency programs.
  • Guides and information for creating resumes and cover letters
  • Guides to interviews
  • Provide information and encourage students to take medical licensing exams.
  • Assist in preparing documents related to residency programs and medical licensing exams.
  • Organize regular Alumni gatherings to keep all alumni interconnected and to help them in their experience sharing.
  • Keep track of alumni records.
  • To analysis alumni records in term of licensure passage, getting into residency programs, continuing education, employment ratio, and employer satisfaction.
  • Update the University regularly regarding counseling programs and activities.
  • Utilize data collected to improve and enhance services to students.
  • Support student retention through achievement and self-empowerment in the areas of academic, career, and personal effectiveness.
  • Assist students who are on academic probation and having difficulty with course work, study habits, and time management.
  • Review annually, the progress made by the department in meeting the goals and objectives.
