The vision of the GMU is to be a leading contributor to the continuous improvement of the nation's health care delivery system and beyond through the pursuit of excellence in medical education, biomedical research and health care services.
The Provost administers the academic colleges and academic support services. As the chief academic officer of this university the provost is assisted by the deans, associate deans and directors of the academic units of the university to ensure the effective implementation of the existing undergraduate and graduate programs offered by the different colleges at the GMU and develop new programs. The primary areas of oversight include academic planning, academic policy, faculty and academic budgets, faculty affairs, assessments and outcomes and institutional research. Other areas of responsibility include the university libraries, information and instructional technology, faculty research, international and summer training programs. Yet other areas of responsibility include strategic planning, accreditation, instruction and research, and the evaluation of programs and research.
The strength of any university is its committed and dedicated faculty and staff. The faculty at GMU is constantly attending professional development activities to improve their skills at teaching and facilitating learning. For the past few years the faculty has taken the initiative to review and revamp the MBBS curriculum in keeping with the changing trends in medical education. The product of these efforts culminated in the introduction of an innovative integrated MBBS curriculum being introduced in the current academic year.
The Gulf Medical University aspires to attract the best of students by offering a variety of excellent programs supported by quality administration and student support services. In the past two years new programs have been developed and submitted for approval at master's and pre-doctoral levels. Efforts continue to develop many more programs to meet the needs not only of health professionals but also of health management and support workers and health science investigators in order to meet the health care needs of the nation and the region.
I do hope as the years go by the academic environment at the GMU will be further enriched to provide a unique learning experience of high quality to all those who become part of this university and who on graduation will help to make a significant contribution to the health of the community through pursuit of academia, research and health care.
